The Grand Scheme of Things, Part II - Embrace your rage

Mass Rage [MR]

As promised in previous post, today we will focus on Mass Rage and how to beat it while piloting Dhamiria creatures. However, I hope this post will help you in reducing negative emotions when facing Mass Rages no matter what you're playing - you can find list of possible counters at bottom of post. We will focus only on Dhamiria and Sandor and ignore Asalah because she doesn't seem to be popular anymore.

Game Plan

They both got exacly the same game plan - stall until they can finish with unavoidable direct and indirect damage. In most cases we can avoid this unavoidable damage while playing Dhamiria.

Damage sources

Classic set of Dhamiria MR damage.

Possible damage sources played in Sandor MR, keep in mind that not all builds play with Mutual Agony.

Tricks

  • Garant's Purge can strip not only your counters (e.g. Stone Shield), but also can trigger discard for Ur-Jubaal's Call if you have only creatures in hand.
  • Conflicting Orders mostly used to make Halls of Torment unavoidable, however MR doesn't need CO against us, because we don't have fortunes.
  • Immolation is sometimes used to trigger Void Wraiths when enemy refused to play creatures, not played in all lists.
  • Void Rift like Garant's Purge can trigger discard for Ur-Jubaal's Call and it's played to deal with Blackskull Crushers (together with Bridge).

  • Inner Fire can be used both on Blackskull Shredders to deal extra damage or to buff our creature so we will eat more damage when creature cursed by Cursed Bond attacks.
  • Broken Bridge is often used to poke with Shredders, so they can avoid removal.
  • Immolation same as in Dhamiria, played not in all builds, but if played it can trigger Void Wraiths even when enemy doesn't play his creatures.

What to do?

  • I've used to rush early game with my creatures so enemy has focus on defending than tutoring his Garant's Purge. Enemy will rather defend his hp or draw extra cards with Night of the Rising Moon and/or Week of Knowledge than try to deal any damage to us and we should try to abuse this opportunity if possible.
  • In most cases they wipe board around 5-6rh. After that we may want to avoid playing creatures so we won't give free damage dealt by Void Wraiths, Mutual Agonies or Cursed Bonds.
  • After board is clear we may want to play our Stone Shields to prevent as much indirect damage as possible later.
  • We go into discard mode and we focus on Halls of Torment>Ur Jubaal's Call>Immolation in Dhamiria case and Inner Fire=Broken Bridge>Immolation>Mutual=Cursed Bond against Sandor.
  • If we play this way we can just mill them since they were drawing extra cards and banished some of them with Revised Tactics.
